Ways to Get Started in Selling Fine Art and Landscape Photography
Photography is a buyer's market. The photography market has been flooded by digital photography with an endless ocean of photographers who want to sell their work. This informative article seeks to educate you on how to begin selling your photography.
We see many of them, and pictures each day in connection with marketing. Photographs of gorgeous landscapes which folks cannot identify are not fascinating to buyers at an art fair. For example, I live in Naples, Florida. I've been to dozens of art fairs and one thing rings true every time: Seldom do unless they know where the scene is buyers buy a beautiful photograph of a beach scene. They want to buy local photographs of local areas. They want to feel connected with the photograph. A 'generic' landscape photo which the buyer does not identify with might as well be a $2 poster at WalMart. The first lesson to learn would be to take photographs of local scene. What are folks in your town proud of? The beautiful mountains enclosing the city? The pier going out into the bay? The downtown lights at Christmas time? Every town has something wonderful. Remember, however, that you will need to photograph that scene in a way that they wouldn't view as clear or common. Dress the scene up in exquisite light and make it stunning.

Should you plan on showing away your work, you need to be callous. Be ruthless with yourself. Take all your best pictures and put them in one folder in your personal computer. Look through each image and ask yourself, 'Would this image 'wow' someone who saw it for the very first time and who was not there to see the scene first hand?' In case the reply is no, then take it out of your art show. In case the reply is yes, then choose 10 of your friends who possess the least tact and ask them if they are 'wowed.' It does not wow them, although photography is subjective, which means you'll get conflicting answers, there are 10,000 other images to pick from. Including 'less-than-wow' images in your gallery will drag down the perceived worth of your art.
You might be proud of the technical perfection of your pictures, and your photo club may be proud, but the typical small-time art buyer simply does not care. The truth is that buyers buy whatever strikes them as beautiful, and simply don't care in case an image has technical imperfections. The buyer only does not care if you use a Canon Rebel XT or a 1D Mark IV. The evidence is in the pudding.

So where are you really going to sell your local fine art photography? A couple of things you might try are art fairs ( in case you can not find them, you aren't appearing, because they are EVERYWHERE), putting your work in coffee shops for free to decorate their store and then have a decal on each image for people to purchase, or submitting articles to your local paper with a link to your site.
All the best in selling your fine art photography. The truth is that the market is really saturated that it is extremely difficult to sell. You've got to go local to conquer the group. Make your town proud of your town.
